Who We Are
A registered Lebanese charity working since 2008 to protect every animal, from street kittens to trafficked lions.
Animals Lebanon is a registered charity (No. 1036) founded on 9 September 2008 in Beirut. We answer more than 7,000 reports of companion animals in need every year, run adoption and foster programs, and lead the fight against the illegal wildlife trade in Lebanon.
Our work rests on three pillars: legislation, companion animals, and endangered wildlife. We drafted and campaigned for Law 47 of 2017, Lebanon’s first national animal protection and welfare law, developed with the Ministry of Agriculture, the World Organisation for Animal Health, CITES, the European Commission, and international animal welfare experts.
We closed three abusive and dilapidated zoos and rehomed over 100 animals, working with sanctuaries around the world to relocate chimpanzees, bears, hyenas, tigers and lions. Lebanon joined CITES as its 178th party through our campaign; the convention came into force on 26 May 2013.
We represent Lebanon at OIE, CITES and European Commission conferences, and were selected by the OIE to help draft the regional animal welfare strategy.
