Two cubs smuggled across the border in a cardboard box
Confiscated: 12 September 2023, at a border crossing. Legal status: smuggler prosecuted under Law 47/2017 and CITES. Current location: sanctuary placement confirmed. Outcome: both cubs healthy.
They were days old, dehydrated, and packed in a cardboard box between crates of vegetables. Lion cubs this young need feeding every three hours; our team did not sleep much that month. Both survived, grew, and will never be sold as props or pets.
